The Great Outdoors in the Finger Lakes

With the continuing uncertainty around Covid-19 and travel Cayuga County is again encouraging safe travel to the great outdoors in the Finger Lakes. Unplan a last-minute weekend getaway to wander through the beautiful hiking trails, scenic drive, nature centers & preserves and catch your breath {of fresh air}.

Are you travelling with a newly acquired four-legged friend, or your trusty companion? Try out the area and trails at Emerson Park where they offer an onsite dog park for dogs of all ages and sizes, with an additional area fenced off for those on the smaller side. Weather depending you can get on the water with Owasco Paddles to immerse yourself in a true Finger Lakes tradition, small craft boating (paddle boards, kayaks, canoes and more). They even have doggy life jackets on site!

Perhaps birding is your one true hobby or newly discovered entertainment? Leisurely take in the stunning views of Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge, Fair Haven Beach State Park, Dorothy McIlroy Bird Sanctuary, or traverse parts of the Erie Canal! Keep your eyes peeled and your binoculars at the ready to spot birds such as bald eagles, great blue heron, turkeys, osprey and more. Keep these sites in mind whether you’re strolling or biking.
