C. J. Koepp, Professor of History at Wells College will share Reflections on a Forgotten Pandemic: Influenza, 1918-19. The influenza epidemic of 1918-19 stands as the most significant epidemic of the twentieth century, yet it disappeared from human memory for decades. Given the concerns about newly emerging diseases such as SARS and Ebola, historians are finally taking a serious look at this massive calamity: who was affected? What were its causes and consequences? How did people and governments respond? What are the lessons of the pandemic for our globalized world today?
