2014 New York Wine & Food Classic Competition Winner
Specialty Wine Champion
The annual New York Wine & Food Classic wine competition, organized by the New York Wine & Grape Foundation, announced its winners on August 13th in Watkins Glen during the Governor’s Cup Competition awards ceremony. The New York Wine & Food Classic is know as ‘The Oscars’ of New York wine and this year included 835 wines, 20 hard ciders and eight spirits from across the State. The awards are based on blind tastings by 22 expert judges – four from California, ten from New York, seven from other states and one from France. Judges include prominent wine writers, restaurateurs, retailers and wine educators.
Cayuga County’s King Ferry Winery was named the ‘Specialty Wine Champion,’ (wines made from fruits other than grapes or honey) for their King Ferry Winery 2013 Apple Mystique. King Ferry Winery is a small farm winery, owned and operated by Tacie and Peter Saltonstall, producing world-class Treleaven Wines.
New York is now home to more than 600 wineries, breweries, distilleries and cideries.
