Cayuga County Tourism and Gretchen Confections have sent an assortment of Harriet Tubman Truffles for the Harriet Tubman Day reception in the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center tomorrow. "We wanted to bring something authentic from Auburn, where Harriet called home and our call for support was answered," said Don Victor Mooney, President H.R. 1242 Resilience Project, and coordinator for this event. Mooney's group is leading an effort to rename the Virginia Inside Passage in honor of Harriet Tubman with the support of Tubman Boosters
For Harriet Tubman Day, proclaimed by the Mayor of District of Columbia, Honorable Muriel Bowser, Ms. Shemika Berry, of Maryland, a renowned Harriet Tubman reenactor will bring Harriet's story to life. Women in Labor will receive the Harriet Tubman Award for Social Justice, which symbolizes freedom, justice, and equality. This inaugural event will carry Harriet Tubman's legacy for years to come, added, Mooney.
In commemoration of the 100 year anniversary of a women's right to vote, a photo exhibition called 19 strong will showcase advocates for women's suffrage from across the country.
