Great Lakes Seaway Trail City to Host North-East Ride the Lightning Motorcycle Rally July 25-28
Auburn, NY – Florida firefighters started the Fire and Iron Motorcycle Club in the late 1990s and there are now chapters across the U.S. The NY-PA Great Lakes Seaway Trail is home to Region 6 Station 222 in Auburn, NY, which will host their North-East Regional Rally called ‘Ride the Lightning’ July 25-28, 2013.
The Auburn-based club bid to win this regional event two years ago.
The local economic impact of the rally from more than 210 participants staying at local accommodations, dining out, shopping and visiting regional attractions is estimated at $100,000.
Rides are planned to the Syracuse-Oswego area, on the Finger Lakes Wine Trail, and along the Great Lakes Seaway Trail to Sodus Bay. Each of the riders will receive a copy of the 2013 Great Lakes Seaway Trail Travel Magazine.
Earlier this year the 518-mile-long Great Lakes Seaway Trail National Scenic Byway was named to the RoadRUNNER magazine Bucket List of Great Motorcycle Rides.
The Great Lakes Seaway Trail byway spans the northern border of Cayuga County. Meg Vanek, executive director of the Cayuga County Office of Tourism, says, ‘Cayuga County’s scenic byways are some of the best roads for motorcycle touring. The breathtaking views, historic sites, natural attractions and quaint villages as well as great places to dine and stay make Cayuga County motorcycling heaven.’
The rally includes the motorcycle rides, live music, a Kilts and Colors Pub Crawl with a bagpiper escort visiting local taverns, and a Sunday 9:30am Blessing of the Bikes.
Fire and Iron Motorcycle Club Station 222 Vice-President Sam Giannettino says the chapter has raised approximately $6,500 to support the Burn Foundation of Central New York in the first four years of the chapter.
