Agriculture is alive and well in the Finger Lakes and if you don’t believe it, you better come on down to The Big 6 Picnic & Cayuga Country Fair. If you think you remember what the county fair was like in your home town and hanker to relive that memory, this is not to be missed! This all started back in the 1940’s and has been revived over the past three years and gets bigger and better each year.

It is apple picking time in the Finger Lakes! One great spot to spend a Saturday afternoon is Owen Orchards on Route 5 between Auburn and Elbridge.

The sky was blue. The air was clear. The goldenrod and purple loose strife were in full bloom. The corn stalks were rustling in the breeze. I was feeling restless and needed to get out and shop.
So I headed down Route 34B from Auburn to King Ferry – about a 17 miles drive through rolling pasture lands - to check out a new shop, Only A Paper Moon, The Studio at the Moon Bake Shoppe.

Where can you find a Cape Cod- like experience in the Finger Lakes? Fair Haven! This is one quaint village with a few nice shops, great choices for a meal and a long sand beach for walking and even finding shells and stones. You will feel like you are at the Atlantic Ocean when it is only Lake Ontario. There are even sea gulls – but no seaweed smell.

Have you ever wished that you lived in the time of knights, damsels in distress and Queen Elizabeth? You can try it out for a weekend right here in the Finger Lakes when you attend the Sterling Renaissance Festival.
Last week, I ran into a friend who has escaped into the Renaissance Festival for over 10 years. She is a “Playtron”, one of the folks who dress up to attend the fair and interact with

Kick-off Summer in the Finger Lakes
Tuesday, April 8, 2014 8:00 PM by Susan Marteney
Kick off summer in the Finger Lakes with a good old fashioned Memorial Day parade in Downtown Auburn. You will feel like you are either in a Norman Rockwell painting or on the movie set of “The Music Man” as the 101 trombones march down Genesee Street to the strains of “American, The Beautiful”.
Starting off about 11 am and lead by local and State elected dignitaries, State troopers, police and
