Celebrating 30 Years of Tourism Excellence
🎂 Happy Birthday Tour Cayuga 🎂
This year marks a major milestone at the Cayuga County Office of Tourism (Tour Cayuga). This year we proudly celebrate our 30th Anniversary. Since our founding in 1995, the office has worked tirelessly to promote the county’s rich culture, history, and natural outdoor beauty, helping transform Cayuga County into a thriving destination for visitors from near and far.
🎂 Three Decades of Impact

What began as a modest operation has grown into an award-winning destination marketing organization. Over the years, the Cayuga County Office of Tourism has elevated the region’s profile through innovative marketing, community collaboration, and a deep commitment to showcasing everything the county has to offer.
From the tranquil shores of Cayuga County’s scenic lakes to historic landmarks like those honoring Harriet Tubman, William Seward, the organization has worked to make the county’s attractions both visible and accessible. These efforts have drawn visitors from across the country and around the world—bringing economic growth, increased visibility, and shared pride to the local community.
“We know that tourism isn’t just about attracting visitors—it’s about creating meaningful connections between people and place,” says Karen Kühl, Director of Tourism. “Over the past 30 years, we’ve leaned into our role as storytellers and stewards of Cayuga County’s culture, and we remain committed to growing tourism in a way that supports our community’s values and future.”
🎂 A Look Back
Meg Vanek, the founding director of the Office of Tourism, reflects on the journey:
“It’s been amazing to be part of and continue to watch the Cayuga County Office of Tourism’s growth that began as an idea of several insightful community leaders to fund and create a dedicated tourism promotion program back in 1995. Starting out with a small budget and staff of one, the organization has grown to the award-winning tourism industry leader it is today, spurring economic growth and improving the quality of life for residents.”
🎂 A Focus on Inclusion and Community
In recent years, the Office of Tourism has been recognized for its commitment to inclusive tourism including partnerships with organizations like Travel Unity, Wheel The World, and Destinations International. A key element of the office’s success has been its embrace of community-driven tourism. From collaborating with local farmers and artisans to highlighting underrepresented voices in marketing campaigns, the organization ensures that tourism initiatives reflect and support the people who call Cayuga County home. This approach not only enhances the visitor experience but also empowers local stakeholders to shape the county’s tourism narrative, reinforcing a shared sense of place and pride.

🎂 Tourism’s Economic Power
Tourism’s role in Cayuga County’s economy is more than visible—it’s measurable. According to the Cayuga County Tourism Economics Report
- Tourism generated $157 million in direct economic impact
- Supported over 1,500 local jobs
- Contributed $18.66 million in state and local taxes
- Provided significant tax relief to local households
This economic strength is a testament to 30 years of strategic promotion, dedicated community engagement, and visionary leadership.
