Cayuga County Tourism Office Announces Second Annual Harriet Tubman Events Grant

March 1, 2023 – Auburn, NY: For the second year, the Cayuga County Tourism Office is very excited to announce the Harriet Tubman Events Grant! This is an opportunity  for Cayuga County businesses and organizations to apply for funds to develop an event, activity or performance that will entertain, inspire, promote and honor Harriet Tubman’s life and legacy. This grant supports events taking place from March through December 2023 and events need to honor Harriet Tubman’s legacy and/or support inclusive activities in the events.

We were very pleased with the creative ideas presented last year and we  are looking forward to many great events in 2023. There were 17 organizations who generated events in 2022: Seward House Museum, Howland Stone Store Museum, Aaduna, Fair Haven Community Arts Center and more!

2022 Grant awardees spoke highly of the opportunity:

“Your grant was instrumental in putting together a wonderfully successful event this year!”

Cayuga Film Festival

“While the article laid dormant in the archives of a local newspaper since 1896, Tour Cayuga’s financial support provided the opportunity to reveal its truth at this time
when we are so deeply in need of understanding the human story.”

Montezuma Historical Society

Karen Kuhl, Executive Director of the Cayuga County Office of Tourism said, “Harriet Tubman chose to spend over 50 years of her life in Cayuga County, these events are an opportunity to honor her. We hope many of these events will become annual traditions and Harriet Tubman’s legacy continues to be elevated.”
