Cayuga County, September 2025 — From July 17–21, Cayuga County welcomed seven travel content creators from across the United States and overseas for the Black Travel Alliance (BTA) “Creators Weekend.” This multi-day FAM tour was designed to immerse the group in the area’s history, outdoor adventure, and creative culture, while providing opportunities to share authentic stories with the wider Black traveler community.

Each of the creators will be producing and publishing dedicated content packages about their time in Cayuga County, ensuring that the experiences, voices, and perspectives of the region reach audiences nationwide and abroad.

“This partnership with the Black Travel Alliance highlights our community’s commitment to sharing Cayuga County in a way that is both welcoming and inclusive,” said Karen Kuhl, Executive Director of Tour Cayuga. “By inviting these storytellers to experience our history, culture, and natural beauty, we’re ensuring that the stories told about Cayuga County reflect the diversity of voices that make our community strong.”

The “Creators Weekend” itinerary was carefully curated to balance reflection, connection, and adventure.

Highlights included:

• Walking in the footsteps of Harriet Tubman with visits to the Harriet Tubman Home property and the Thompson Memorial AME Zion Church.

• Exploring historic advocacy sites such as Opendore and the Howland Stone Store Museum.

• Outdoor adventures including hiking at Fillmore Glen State Park, riding Fair Haven Water Bikes on

Little Sodus Bay, horseback riding at Southern Tier Stables, and a cruise with Bianconi Tours on Cayuga Lake.

• Dining experiences at locally owned restaurants such as Elderberry Pond, Fargo Bar & Grill, Colloca Estate Winery, and Summerhill Brewing.

• A community dinner with local leaders, historians, and living familial relatives of Harriet Tubman.

• Collaborative work sessions at Melody’s Shared Working Space, providing creators professional development.

Throughout the weekend, participants experienced Cayuga County as both a place rooted in history and a destination that continues to champion inclusivity, creativity, and connection.

The resulting stories, videos, and photography produced by these creators will be received in September and will introduce Cayuga County to a global audience of diverse travelers, highlighting it as a destination where freedom’s legacy, outdoor adventure, and community spirit intersect.
