Cayuga County Tourism Office Announces Third Annual Harriet Tubman Events Grant

March 5, 2024 – Auburn, NY: For the third year, the Cayuga County Tourism Office is very excited to announce the Harriet Tubman Events Grant! This grant provides an opportunity for Cayuga County businesses and organizations to apply for funds to develop an event, activity, performance, or other program that is open to the public and provides education, entertainment, or inspiration surrounding Harriet Tubman’s life and legacy.

In the spirit of diversity, equity, and inclusion, the events proposed by applicants must both: 1) promote inclusivity in its participants and vendors, and 2) have a draw to regional visitation beyond the location’s immediate area. The grant will support events occurring from May through December 2024.

“Cayuga County served as Harriet Tubman’s chosen home for more than fifty years of her life,” said Executive Director of Tour Cayuga, Karen Kuhl. “This grant and the events that it sponsors provide opportunities to honor her legacy. We are beyond proud to support so many incredible organizations working to ensure that Cayuga County continues to celebrate Harriet Tubman and her history here.”

Last year, 18 organizations generated events, including the Booker T. Washington Community Center, the Harriet Tubman Liberation Foundation, the Seward House Museum, the Auburn Public Theater, and so many more. We were thrilled and honored in 2023 by the creative ideas presented by our applicants, and we are looking forward to many more great events in 2024.

2023 awardees spoke very highly of the grant opportunity:

“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for the generous grant that Melody’s received from the Cayuga County Tourism Office. The grant played a pivotal role in making the event a resounding success, not only in terms of the event itself but also in promoting tourism in our region.”
