Cayuga County Welcomes Wheel the World for Destination-Wide Accessibility Assessment

Cayuga County, June 2025 — The Cayuga County Office of Tourism is proud to partner with Wheel the World, a global leader in accessible travel experiences, to lead a destination- wide accessibility assessment of key tourism assets throughout the county. This collaborative initiative, spearheaded and supported by the Office of Tourism, reflects a deep commitment to making Cayuga County more inclusive for travelers of all abilities. By working with Wheel the World’s team of accessibility experts, Cayuga County is taking a proactive and purposeful step to better understand and improve the visitor experience for everyone.
This multi-day visit includes on-site evaluations of hotels, restaurants, wineries, museums, parks, and outdoor recreation businesses across the region. Each location is being carefully assessed based on over 200 detailed accessibility criteria, including entrance access, restroom configurations, pathway measurements, and communication accommodations, to ensure transparency and comfort for travelers with disabilities.
This initiative positions Cayuga County as a proactive leader in inclusive travel. The evaluation aims to establish Cayuga as a “Destination Verified” county by Wheel the World, a designation awarded only to destinations that meet the organization’s rigorous standards for inclusive travel. Participating businesses will also receive a detailed accessibility report, along with actionable recommendations for improvement and the opportunity to earn Wheel the World’s o/icial Accessibility Seal of Approval.
