Let the rich colors of produce delight you as you find what you need to nourish yourself and prepare flavorful dishes – it doesn’t get fresher than this! Depending on when you visit, you may even find Harriet Tubman’s favorite fruits in season: apples and strawberries! Please check the farmers market schedules to ensure they’re open during your visit.
- If you’d still like to savor farm-fresh ingredients in a meal but would prefer to have it prepared for you instead, you’re still in luck! Cayuga County offers many farm-to-table restaurants that pride themselves on using local ingredients, making your meal even more flavorful. Historic Sites
- While you’re in Harriet Tubman’s hometown, it’s only fitting that you visit the historic landmarks that paint the story of her legacy: Visit the Harriet Tubman Home to walk the grounds of her property, and see her home and the Home for the Aged; stop by the Thompson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, where she worshipped and where her funeral was held; and pay your respects at her gravesite at Fort Hill Cemetery. These experiences offer visitors a unique opportunity to trace Harriet Tubman’s life in the place where she spent her last 50+ years.



- Two of Harriet Tubman’s confidants were William H. Seward – U.S. Secretary of State to President Lincoln – and his wife, Frances – a suffragist and abolitionist alongside her husband. Tour their historically preserved home and have a truly eye-opening experience when you stand in the actual room where freedom-seekers stayed hidden in shelter along their journey to freedom.

- Did you know that Harriet Tubman relied on outdoor elements – such as the stars in the sky, the flow of the water and how moss grew on trees – to guide her rescue missions along the Underground Railroad?
